Biography of the band

Davey Havok

Havok (Born David Anthony Marchand) was born on November 20, 1975 in Rochester,  New York. Shortly after, he moved to Ukiah, California. There, Davey attended Catholic school in Ukiah until the eighth grade. During high
school, his friends Markus Stopholese and Vic
Chalker wanted to start a band. Unfortunately,
they had several problems. Chief amongst them was
that their lack of a drummer. Mark suggested his
friend Adam Carson be in the band. Furthermore,
they didn't know how to play any instruments, but
they knew that Davey had a good voice, and Adam
had a drumset. So Mark learned guitar and Vic
learned bass (he was later replaced by future
Tiger Army bassist Geoff Kresge).

Davey cites lead singers such as Freddie Mercury
(of Queen), Robert Smith (of The Cure), Glenn
Danzig (of The Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig), Ian
MacKaye (of Minor Threat and Fugazi) and David
Bowie as his influences. Shortly after high
school, the band broke up and Davey moved to
Berkeley, California, where he attended UC
Berkeley, planning to double major in English and
Psychology. He began constantly writing lyrics to
songs that would eventually appear on the
albums "Answer That and Stay Fashionable"
and "Very Proud of Ya".

In a memorable band reunion, put together by one
of their classmates, the band played at the
Phoenix Theatre for several hundreds of fans. They
decided to reunite and record an album. In
1995, "Answer That and Stay Fashionable" was
released on Wingnut Records (re-released in 1997
on Nitro Records). Geoff left during a tour
for "Very Proud of Ya" and was replaced by Hunter
Burgan. Hunter would eventually become the
permanent replacement for Geoff. Hunter was still
in The Force until he permanently joined AFI
during the "A Fire Inside" EP. However, before
that, AFI released their third full length
release, "Shut Your Mouth And Open Your Eyes", in
which Davey started getting very serious about his
lyrics. He started singing about religion,
humanity and other more serious issues.

The next release was the "A Fire Inside" EP. It
featured covers of "The Hanging Garden", in which
Davey got to do his best Robert Smith
impersonation, and "Demonomania" by the Misfits.
Afterwards, Mark was asked to leave the band. His
replacement was Jade Puget, the band's old friend
from high school who said he would join after he
graduated college. AFI then released their first
full length release with Hunter and Jade, "Black
Sails In The Sunset". In fall of that year, they
released the "All Hallows" EP. In 2000, they
released "The Art Of Drowning" to fair record
sales, but great acclaim by fans of the band. AFI
then toured for a few years releasing a few EPs
along the way. In 2003, the band's first major
label release, "Sing the Sorrow", came out,
getting great record sales, but losing many of the
older fans, whom considered the album to be
somewhat corporate, and lacking in the older
hardcore punk sound of their previous releases.

In 2005, Davey Havok teamed up with Serious
Clothing to release Glitterboy. Glitterboy
Clothing is available through Hot Topic.

Other appearances

Havok has lended his voice to The Nerve Agents for
their 2nd release, Days of the White Owl on the
song, "Jekyl and Hyde."

Havok provided backing vocals for The Offspring's
4th album Ixnay on the Hombre.

Havok also has provided many backup vocals for
Tiger Army

Havok provided vocals and lyrics for Son of Sam,
alongside Todd Youth of Danzig, Steve Zing and
London May of Samhain.

Alongside Jade Puget from AFI, Havok is believed
to be involved in an electronic side-project named
Blaqk Audio, of which little is known.

Havok also was a guest vocalist on The Transplants
song "Quick Death".

Jade Puget

Jade Puget (full name Jade Errol Puget, born
November 28, 1972) is the current guitarist for
the band AFI. He joined the band in 1998. Before
joining AFI Jade played in various bands, most
significantly Loose Change (which shared a 7" with
AFI in 1992 when the bands first started. This 7",
titled Dork, was AFI's first vinyl), and
Redemption 87.

Jade's recordings with the band include Black
Sails (1999), All Hallows (1999), Days of the
Phoenix (2001), and 336 (2002)and the full length
CDs Black Sails in the Sunset (1999), The Art of
Drowning (2000), and Sing the Sorrow (2003).

Jade's influence as a musician contributed to
AFI's change over the years, as is evident from
the differences between Shut Your Mouth and Open
Your Eyes (1997, pre-Jade) and Black Sails in the
Sunset (1999, post-Jade).

Jade shares the Straight Edge lifestyle with
Davey. The band itself is not Straight Edge (for
example, drummer Adam Carson used to smoke). Jade
has a sister, a half brother, and a younger
brother named Smith who is AFI's tour manager.
Jade joined the band after completing college (the
rest of the band had quit college in order to
continue with the band). He has a degree in social
theory.

Jade has several tattoos, such as the "18" on his
arm (which was originally a "13".). He also has
brown hair with blonde on top. Jade has a piercing
on the skin between his teeth and his upper lip
(also called a smiley) and has ear piercings.

Hunter Burgan

Hunter Burgan (born May 14, 1975) is the third and current bassist of AFI. He played in a band called The Force at the time that he joined AFI. He was meant to be a temporary
replacement for the existing bassist, for the Shut
Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes album tour, but
subsequently left the Force and became AFI's full-
time bassist.

Hunter loves Prince's music and even has his own
side-project called Hunter Revenge dedicated to
singing early-Prince-style R&B. He is the person
playing piano in AFI's "The Chicken Song". Hunter
is a one-man band: he can sing, and his instrument
list includes drums, bass, guitar, and piano. He
has played drums for The Eyeliners on tour.

Adam Carson

Adam Carson (February 5, 1975 - ) is the drummer
for the band AFI (A Fire Inside). Adam, along with
frontman Davey Havok, are the only original
members left in the lineup.versatile drumming and
his obsession of pirates.

Although Adam has been with AFI since day one, he
has also filled in as a drummer for the band Tiger
Army in 1996. Those Tiger Army songs featuring
Adam as their drummer can be now found on Tiger
Army's The Early Years EP. Nick 13 of Tiger Army
once mentioned that Adam was a member of Influence
13 - a band formed by himself, Jade Puget (who
will later join AFI in 1998), Geoff Kresge (who
will later leave AFI in 1996 and Tiger Army in
2004), and two other friends. Nick also stated
that "it was a weird lineup that never really took
off".

Unlike few members of AFI, Adam does not follow
the straight edge lifestyle. However, he is
vegetarian.

Adam is mostly known in the AFI fan base for his
